Coupled electrohydrodynamic transport in rough fractures: a generalized lubrication theory
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fractures provide pathways for fluids and solutes through crystalline rocks low permeability materials, thus playing a key role in many subsurface processes applications. In small aperture fractures, solute transport is strongly impacted by the coupling of electrical double layers at mineral–fluid interfaces to bulk ion transport. Yet, most models flow fractures ignore these effects. Solving such coupled electrohydrodynamics realistic three-dimensional (3-D) fracture geometries poses computational challenges which have so far limited our understanding those electro-osmotic effects’ impact. Starting from Poisson–Nernst–Planck–Navier–Stokes (PNPNS) equations using combination rescaling, asymptotic analysis Leibniz rule, we derive set nonlinearly conservation local fluxes fluid mass, mass charges. Their solution yields pressure, concentration potential fields. The model validated comparing its predictions solutions PNPNS 3-D rough fractures. Application evidences several phenomena hitherto not reported literature, including: (i) dependence conductivity on walls’ charge density, (ii) (sometimes global) reversal, (iii) spatial heterogeneities field without any imposed gradient. This new theoretical framework will allow systematically addressing large statistics geometry realizations given stochastic parameters, infer impact various hydrodynamic parameters ions

Generalized attribute reduct in rough set theory
Attribute reduction plays an important role in the areas of rough sets and granular computing. Many kinds of attribute reducts have been defined in previous studies. However, most of them concentrate on data only, which result in the difficulties of choosing appropriate attribute reducts for specific applications. It would be ideal if we could combine properties of data and user preference in t...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Lubrication of Rough Surfaces
Interacting surfaces are frequently found in mechanical systems and components. A lubricant is often added between the surfaces to separate them from mechanical contact in order to increase life and performance of the contacting surfaces. In this work various aspects of hydrodynamic lubrication are investigated theoretically. This is where interacting surfaces are completely separated by a flui...
متن کاملThe Generalized Maxwell-Stefan Model Coupled with Vacancy Solution Theory of Adsorption for Diffusion in Zeolites
It seems using the Maxwell-Stefan (M-S) diffusion model in combination with the vacancy solution theory (VST) and the single-component adsorption data provides a superior, qualitative, and quantitative prediction of diffusion in zeolites. In the M-S formulation, thermodynamic factor (Г) is an essential parameter which must be estimated by an adsorption isotherm. Researchers usually utilize the ...

Thin fluid films can have surprising behavior depending on the boundary conditions enforced, the energy input and the specific Reynolds number of the fluid motion. Here we study the equations of motion for a thin fluid film with a free boundary and its other interface in contact with a solid wall. Although shear dissipation increases for thinner layers and the motion can generally be described ...
